I enjoyed the book, as I usually do with Ana’s books, but I’m a bit disappointed since this is supposed to be the first book of the King of Sin series, which is meant to span 7 books. Yet, Ana chose a backdrop similar to her Twisted series — the male CEO vibes and a female MC with secret vulnerabilities. Anyway, moving on to the book…It was a compelling forced arranged marriage romance that blossomed into a beautiful love story.
The first half of the book delves into why Dante Russo, the enigmatic CEO of the luxury goods conglomerate Russo Group, reluctantly agrees to marry Vivian from the Lau Jewels Group. It involves predictable family blackmailing and drama. Despite the theatrics, I really enjoyed the slow burn between the main characters, how they adjusted to their sudden new routine, navigating media and PR stunts, and attempting to maintain professionalism in their marriage — though they often failed hilariously. The fake dates and banter to disguise their underlying tension is a classic romance trope that worked well for me!
~ —Separate rooms until marriage. I didn’t realize you were such a traditionalist —I didn’t realize you were so eager to share a bed with me
~ Give me time, mia Cara. That’s all I need besides you.
I also appreciated how Heath, Vivian’s ex, played a role in building their relationship. Dante’s unwitting possessiveness over time was well portrayed in Heath’s presence. And his confession..ommo…!
~I hate the idea of you touching anyone else, or anyone else touching you. I hate that other people can make you laugh in a way I cant. I hate how I feel around you, like you’re the only person that can make me loose control when I. Don’t. Lose. Control!
In the second half, things take a more serious turn as Vivian discovers the arrangement her father made with Russo, which threatens to break them apart. However, Dante’s persistence in the climax made the story compelling. Also, I really enjoyed being able to see the twisted lies scenes from Vivian and Dante’s point of view. Although I feel Ana books don’t seem like the best things in the world to me, but they are undeniably addictive, and I’ll definitely continue reading them.
~You take the most ordinary or unexpected things and make them extraordinary. You see the silver lining in every situation and the good in everyone, even if they don’t deserve it.
~Vivian once told me about a Chinese proverb that said an invisible thread connected those destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. I felt the phantom tug of that thread now
